Speedrun

In a fantasy kingdom, a princess and her captor’s magical lackey dream of social change, the overthrow of the local crime boss, and rescue from an overall-clad hero. Speedrun explores the idea that social movements are built on Black bodies who are then excluded when those movements reach the mainstream.

Zachariah Ezer (Playwright and Editor, he/him) is a playwright/dramaturg/afropessimist who animates theoretical quandaries through dramaturgical forms. He has developed work in New York, DC, Chicago, Houston, and online. He is a Michener Fellow, a Town Stages Creative Arts Fellow, and a member of The Tank’s LIT Council. MFA: UT Austin (2023). BA: Wesleyan University.

Dominique Rider (Director) is a Brooklyn-based director/dramaturg. They believe in l[i/o]ving like it is the end of the world and answering the question: “What is a world unmade by slavery?” They are the director-in-residence for the National Black Theatre, a 2019 NAMT observer, and an inaugural member of Roundabout Theatre Company’s Directing Group & Mabou Mines’ Makers program.

Imani Russell (Salamancer, they/them/elle) is a gender destructive actor, singer, and writer from Brooklyn, NY. Imani recently performed in the Bushwick Starr’s Big Green Theater: The Movie!, the first ever BGT film. Other credits include: Above the Noise at Dixon Place and Legally Blonde at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Namakula (Guava, she/her) is a Jamaican/Ugandan American artist who’s built a robust career as an actor/producer in TV, film, theatre and digital. Recent O/C roles: Ryan Murphy’s ”The Politician” and Shonda Rhimes’ “Inventing Anna”. Notable credits: u/s in “Fairview”, 2019 Pulitzer Prize (Drama) and the VOICE of REI’s “Force of Nature” campaign, 2018 Cannes Bronze Glass Lion. This is the third time Namakula and playwright Zachariah Ezer are working together and she’s thrilled to reprise her role as Princess Guava! https://www.namakula.com

Ethan Fox (Sasha, he/him) is a New York-based actor, writer, and director from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He graduated from Vassar College, receiving the Molly Thacher-Kazan Memorial Prize for distinction in the theatrical arts. He is a proud alum of BADA and the Powerhouse Training Program.
